How to Read Trek Difficulty Ratings
Learn what easy, moderate, challenging and expert labels should mean before you register.
Difficulty combines more than distance. Elevation gain, trail surface, exposure, altitude, weather, duration and access to help all matter. An easy five-kilometre walk can become demanding in heat, while a longer shaded route may feel comfortable.
What travellers should know
Read the itinerary, ask about ladder or scrambling sections and disclose health concerns honestly. Compare the trip requirements with your recent activity—not with what you completed years ago. My Discoveries trip pages show duration, capacity and difficulty, but the owner can provide the most current trail conditions.
